State Troopers to Receive Awards

 

RALEIGH— Bryan E. Beatty, secretary of the N.C. Department of Crime Control & Public Safety and Colonel Walter J. Wilson Jr., Commander of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, will present Trooper Beckley Vaughan, Trooper Chasity Davis, Trooper Gary Hammonds, Trooper Jonathan Taylor and Trooper Sean Bridges with the Department's Meritorious Service Award, the Secretary's Gold Circle Award and the Highway Patrol's Meritorious Service Award in a ceremony on Friday, September 26th at 10:00 a.m. at the Highway Patrol's Troop “C” Headquarters in Raleigh.

 “These trooper's efforts to stop illegal street racing resulted in numerous arrests and uncovered a stolen vehicle parts ring that has been operating in Raleigh for a number of years” said Beatty. “They are to be commended for their actions.”

On June 22nd, Trooper Vaughan, Trooper Davis, Trooper Hammonds, Trooper Taylor and Trooper Bridges obtained arrest warrants against 14 people based on their investigation during the undercover operation. Troopers issued 50 charges and confiscated ten vehicles.

 “These troopers have worked hard to stop this form of criminal activity on our highways. Street racing is dangerous and we will not tolerate it on our highways. These troopers efforts exemplifies what it means to be a State Trooper—to ensure safe, efficient transportation on our streets and highways,” said Colonel Walter J. Wilson, Jr., Highway Patrol Commander.

The Meritorious Service Award is given when troopers go above and beyond their normal duties.
